I’m presenting my 5-minute sweet and sour apricot mustard sauce!
There’s this fast food chain that we all know and they have a sweet-sour sauce that I used to love to eat with my french fries. I made a very similar sauce now and it is absolutely delicious with sweet potatoes, and especially with my new sweet potato skillet.

What do you need for the apricot mustard sauce?
- Mustard
I use medium mustard for this sauce. Stronger ones, like dijon mustard, I would not recommend, the taste is too strong.
- Apricot jam
Apricot jam is also available with less sugar. My experience is that that is not sweet enough for the apricot mustard sauce to taste good, you might want to add a teaspoon of maple syrup if you are using something like that.

This sauce also works wonderfully as a dipping sauce for spring rolls or nuggets, or brushed on as a glaze for roasted vegetables or tofu. Of course it is also delicious with fries or roast potatoes.

Apricot Mustard Sauce
Recommended Equipment
Ingredients
- 120 ml apricot jam
- 60 ml medium mustard
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- a few grinds black pepper
Instructions
- First, gather all your ingredients and prepare them in the right amounts. That makes it so much easier and more fun and you're less likely to forget anything.
- Just combine everything well and it’s ready. If the jam has fruit bits, I use a food processor or blender. If you find it too thin, just add a little more apricot jam.

FAQ
Can I use this as a glaze?
Yes! Brush it onto roasted vegetables, tofu, or plant-based “meat” during the last few minutes of cooking for a sticky, caramelized finish.
Is this the same as sweet and sour sauce?
It’s similar in flavo, sweet, tangy, and a little savory, but this sauce gets its depth from real apricot jam and mustard rather than the typical pineapple-and-vinegar base of classic sweet and sour sauce.
Is this the same as apricot mostarda?
Not quite. Italian apricot mostarda is a thicker, candied condiment, often with a sharper mustard-oil bite. This sauce is lighter, pourable, and ready in 5 minutes.

can’t wait to make this today . thank you so much ❤️
Thank you Barbara, hope you’ll like it as much as we do 🙂
Could I freeze some of this? It made so much and it is so good. I hate to waste it.
Hi K,
I haven’t tried it yet, but I see no reason why that wouldn’t work. Kind regards, Nina
